Who We Are

Principled Preservation is an ecological mitigation company focused on preserving, improving, and uplifting our natural environment. We provide ecological offset and restoration solutions, focused mainly on waterways and wetlands that have been eroded and polluted by natural and manmade causes.  We believe that a plan, path and procedure can lead to a better environment for all: Humans, flora and fauna.  How can we do that?  By concentrating on cleaning and restoring soils, water and air.
“Dirt out, oxygen in.”  Our current focus is on the Chesapeake Bay region and removing Nitrogen, Phosphorus and sediment from the fresh waters.  At Principled Preservation, we can write a Nutrient Management plan for all your farm fields to reduce excess fertilizer from getting into the water or we can rebuild your streams and ponds to eliminate erosion and put more oxygen in the water column.

“Like Teddy Roosevelt, we are trying to preserve some spectacular places by advancing ideas and practices that serve all environmental rehabilitation purposes with the proper planning and foresight.”

– Joe Bane

Our History

Founded in 2006 as Loudoun Mitigation Bank, the roots of Principled Preservation run deep. Virginia natives, Joe and Tammy Bane, began the company after successfully restoring a stream on a piece of property in Joe’s family since childhood. Their discovery of the entire process, from both the landowner and restoration company point of view, made them a perfect fit for brokering win/win deals for others looking to create an ecological lift with their resources. Their expertise has been proven time and time again for the past 15 years, and today, Principled Preservation has grown into a company that spearheads multiple areas of ecological problem solving.

Leaders in Natural Restoration

What sets Principled Preservation apart is our approach to working with people and mother nature. We believe you can’t impose your will on nature, you have to work with it. Unlike other waterway restoration projects that tear out trees and dig drainage ditches, we keep a natural landscape and don’t ruin or dispose of vital topsoil. We are careful where others are careless. That’s why Principled Preservation is a leader in regards to maintaining a harmonious relationship with the land.
